Carolina Beach providing sand for residents ahead of storm

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — High water is a concern for those on the coast or in low-lying areas.

The town of Carolina Beach is helping residents prepare for the effects of Hurricane Irma.

The sand has been out here since 9 a.m. over on Sumtner Avenue by Mike Chappell Park tennis courts.

If you need some, make sure you have your own bags and shovels.

As of mid-morning Friday only a handful of people have stopped by to get prepared for the storm.

Chris Frantz wants to make sure water doesn’t get inside his home.

“Just so you’re ready you never know if it’s going to change direction or something,” Frantz said. “It’s here might as well get it ready we’ll have it for another storm if this one doesn’t do anything. We got a first floor so we just wanted to put some stuff in the doorways just in case.”

The town is also letting people park their cars on town property after 5 p.m. on Sunday but they will not be responsible for any cars left there.
